Hagyard Equine Medical Institute is emblematic of Kentucky’s storied horse history. In 1875, Dr. E.T. Hagyard first came to Kentucky from Professor Dick’s Veterinary College in Edinburgh, Scotland to treat a valuable shorthorn bull. By 1891, Hagyard and Sons veterinary hospital was built on East Short Street in Lexington. Nearly a century and a half later, the veterinarians and care staff at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute are still dedicating themselves to equine health.
