Fully accredited for all animal species by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD), the mission of the Breathitt Veterinary Center (BVC) is to provide fast, accurate, and reliable diagnostic information to help veterinarians and animal owners make the best possible treatment decisions for their animals. Whether it comes to veterinary care or the efficient production of safe animal products, the philosophy of the BVC is based on an interdependent team of animal owner, veterinarian, and diagnostic services.

Using the latest scientific knowledge, equipment, and techniques, they work to promote animal health and reduce the incidence and losses associated with animal diseases. The laboratory services and scientific disciplines of Pathology, Microbiology, Molecular Diagnostics, Toxicology, Serology, and Virology are provided at the BVC facility. Along with general information in the client handbook, click here to find a full list of tests and fees.

If you or your vet have questions about preparing the specimen, you can use these instructions. When serum is required, as with a Coggins test, the preferred method would be to separate the cells from the serum. You should also follow the packaging guidelines issued by DOT and IATA regulations. This includes 3 main packaging components of a leak-proof transport tube sealed inside a bag with absorbent materials and shipped in a sturdy box or container.

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8am-4:30pm. After-hours deliveries requiring assistance must be arranged in advance. They also have an overnight depository that you can use anytime.
