A satellite facility of NC State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, the Equine Health Center at Southern Pines (EHC-SP) has a clinical diagnostic laboratory that has been operating since 1980. Along basic blood chem panels, Coggins testing for equine infectious anemia is the most frequently requested lab service. Some of their diagnostic services, including Coggins tests, are only available to vet practitioners, but they also have an impressive list of tests and fees available to the general public.

In addition to a diagnostic lab, their equine services include surgery, ophthalmology, and reproduction. They also strive to promote public education including basic facts about equine infectious anemia. Another thing that sets this equine center apart is that it’s the only USDA-certified quarantine for Contagious Equine Metritis (CEM) in North Carolina.

The EHC-SP prides itself on responsive services, affordable prices, and fast turnaround times. Give them a call and expect to talk to an actual staff member, not an automated phone system. They also offer easy-to-understand guidance for shipping and mailing instructions. The EHC-SP is open Monday through Friday, 8am – 4pm, except for federal/state holidays.
