In the early 1980s, Gulf Coast Large Animal Clinic was founded by Dr. Gregg Knape; his wife Cheryl, the practice manager; and Gary Batson, the veterinary technician. This small but dedicated team is dedicated to the health and well-being of the horses and livestock in their care, as well as their responsibilities as a teaching clinic. Students visit this 200-acre former dairy farm to see first-hand when it takes to treat every type of affliction and to keep animals healthy.

Dr. Knape has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. The one that he holds with pride was the implementation of mandatory drug testing for all livestock shown at the local rodeo. As such, it’s no surprise that the Gulf Coast Large Animal Clinic also has an in-house Coggins lab for regulatory testing of equine infectious anemia. Their in-house laboratory provides additional testing and diagnostic services including CBCs, thyroid, and comprehensive wellness panels.

Their wellness services offer deworming and a complete vaccination schedule. Other equine care includes ultrasound, reproduction, lameness exams, digital radiography, dentistry, surgery, and eleven horse stalls, including two with IV setup. Their hours of operation are 8am – 5:30pm Monday through Friday and Saturday 8am – 12pm.
