A member of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN), the Texas State-Federal Laboratory in Austin offers laboratory support for TAHC and USDA cooperative programs and surveillance activities. Laboratory services include a variety of tests for livestock and other animals. The Texas State Federal Laboratory also has an arrangement with the USPS for shipping samples to the lab. You can also order sample submission supplies directly from the lab.

We know that the Texas State Federal Laboratory has the capability to run EIA Coggins testing, but they offer no information about conducting routine Coggins test screening. Rather, some veterinary diagnostic laboratories will refer equine samples with an initial positive Coggins test to the Austin federal laboratory for confirmation. Likewise, this laboratory is part of the Texas Animal Health Commission, the definitive authority on animal health and travel in the state. You can find general guides on equine health, Texas entry requirements for equines, and options for ordering the Texas certificate of veterinary inspection.
