The West Virginia Animal Health Division monitors animal diseases including field work at fairs, auctions, and other events, as well as regulatory disease testing. It can command a variety of resources necessary to eradicate outbreaks, quarantine affected animals, and decontaminate affected properties. The Animal Health Division also manages multiple laboratory locations. The Charleston/Guthrie Laboratory is responsible for Coggins testing for equine infectious anemia. This lab runs both AGID and ELISA tests with results available next-day and same-day, when samples are delivered to the lab by 12:30pm. Positive samples are confirmed by the NVSL. If you’re interested in other equine and animal diagnostic services, you can view their full list of tests and fees.
Veterinarians can also find some online resources that can serve as a user guide for submitting samples and testing service requests from the Animal Health Division Laboratories. We recommend starting with these shipping guidelines. It also provides links to several USDA federal guidelines including a comprehensive set of resources and regulations for tracing animal diseases.
